Why You Have To Seas The Day In Norfolk

If you're ever looking for a weekend away with the family that's got it all then look no further than Norfolk, particularly the north Norfolk coast. The ideal gateway for parents and children aged 5-10, the coast is filled with an amazing variety of salt marshes, tidal creeks, rolling cliffs and huge expanses of unspoilt beach that will fascinate your mini adventurers. Gather the whole family around and get ready for splish, splash and a cycle.

It's a delight. From the beaches to the activities to the locals - nothing could be more charming, quaint and cosy. We started off with a day at Wells-next-the-sea. A series of sailing boats are moored along the little seafront and there are some fab fish and chip shops and an amusement arcade, plus a few more stylish boutiques along the side lanes.

You can then scoot or walk along the path to the beach which takes around 15 minutes and the view that greets you is just wonderful. Think soft sand, beaches that go on for miles and hundreds of families enjoying themselves on a fair weather day. Lots of shallow pools for the kids to go "crabbing" in too which ours thoroughly enjoyed. If you don't fancy the walk there is a sweet little train which ferries passengers up and down the coastal path every 15 minutes. We hopped back on this but be prepared to queue!

Next up, Holkham. An equally stunning beach that can be accessed from the nearby car park and combined with a visit to Holkham Hall across the road (drive up there if you have tired little legs in your party), which has fantastic grounds, a woodland play area, tea rooms and a whole host of stately home treats plus scooters and bikes are allowed on the paths. You'll find the Victoria pub at the entrance to the estate - worth booking in advance for a nice lunch.

Everywhere along the coast from Blakeney to Brancaster is worth a visit and an explore. For some family highlights don't miss the boat trip out from Blakeney to see the seals and a pub lunch at the Hoste Arms in chic Burnham Market.

For day trips you have the magical Bewilderwood and the action packed Dinosaur Adventure within half an hour and nearer to Norwich.

We detoured en route back to London to Thetford Forest and that deserves a post in itself. Think a huge, beautifully maintained, forest with an array of family-friendly gems onsite. You can make music in the midst of a stunning wooded area and the notes travel through the trees in a way that is just magical. You can ride through the forest on a pony. Engage in hours of play one of the best adventure playgrounds we've been to (this covers loads of separate areas so keep wandering to discover more).

Cycling and scooting trails for families all over and really well maintained cafe/loo facilities onsite plus picnic and BBQ spaces dotted everywhere. Go Ape is on site too with two trails, one suitable for 5+ and the pictures I've uploaded hopefully show how stunning the set up was.
