What to expect

Have you always dreamt of visiting a drive-in movie theatre with your family? Are the Dirty Dancing songs on your driving playlist? Well, now's your chance to combine the two, as eighties classic Dirty Dancing (rated 15) is being shown at the retro-style Drive In at Troubadour Meridian Water in London.

Relive the magic of the great American drive-in theatre as you settle down to watch this feel-good film. Follow Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman as she falls madly in love with the Catskills resort’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle, whilst she spends the summer there. Pure dancing pleasure awaits, as well as all your favourite songs from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack!

Watch Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze take to the dance floor as the young Baby and skilful Johnny in this romantic '80s flick about growing up and discovering who you are. And if your older kids aren't already fans, they will love the soundtrack. In fact, the Dirty Dancing soundtrack is one of the highest-selling albums of all time, with hits including Love Man, Big Girls Don't Cry,  De Todo Un Poco, She’s Like The Wind and of course, the most iconic Dirty Dancing song, Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley's The Time Of My Life, which accompanies the final, euphoric dance number.

Don't miss your chance to relive some of the most iconic movie moments of the 1980s like you've never seen them before. This is the ideal way to experience a contact-free trip to the cinema. Expect live actors, 1950s drive-in attendants, classic cinema refreshments, and great entertainment - all from the comfort of your own car. Plus, you can belt out the songs from the film and no one will be any the wiser - what more could you want?

Kidadl in the Know

  • Is there parking?

Yes – visitors will be seated in their own cars for the duration of the performance. All cars will be parked and spaced at least 2 metres apart. Tickets to Drive In screenings and performances are scanned through your closed car window, so there will be no contact at all!

  • Are there baby-changing facilities?

Unfortunately, there are no baby changing facilities at The Drive In. This is in order to maintain strict hygiene standards to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

  • Where to eat

If you're feeling peckish, there's a snack bar with food, drinks and other refreshments available. Orders can be made on your mobile and will be delivered straight to your car by a 1950s drive-in attendant in a safe and contact-free manner. Refreshments include popcorn, burgers, and more. You will receive instructions on how to place a food order using your mobile app when you arrive.

  • Kidadl top tips

You're encouraged to wear a face mask and must keep a minimum 2-metre distance when using the toilet facilities.
